小袋棚 Kobukurodana
炉風、炉兼用の棚で、表千家 13 代 目即中斎(そくちゅうさい)無盡宗 左(むじんそうさ)が昭和35年頃の住宅事情に合わせ、好まれたそう です。 This is a shelf that can be used for both furo and Ro. Kobukurodana was reportedly favored by the 13th Grand Master Sokuchuʼu-saʼi. 江岑棚の謂れ・History of Ko’ushindana
「三木町棚」は、四代家元逢源斎江岑宗左（こうしんそうさ）が好んだ棚です。天板と地板は杉、柱は檜、引出しは樅（もみ）で出来でおり、竹の摘みがあります。底の四隅には足がついています。 The 4th Grand Master, Ho’ugen-sai (aka Ko’ushin So’usa), favored tana known as Mikimachidana. The top and bottom boards are made of cedar, the columns are cypress, and the drawer is fir. The knob on the drawer is bamboo. There are four legs at the four corners of the bottom board. 紀州徳川家に茶頭として出仕した江岑は、京都と和歌山との往還していました。和歌山城下の三木町にある屋敷に滞在中、江岑が若党に作らせたといわれています。樅・檜・杉の残材を寄せ木にして棚にしたという説と、紀州徳川家より樅の折箱を拝領したのでこれを引き出し、残材を加えて棚にしたという説があります。 Ko’ushin served the… Continue reading

炉の長板・Naga’ita for Ro
長板は風炉や水指などをのせる長方形の板で、大棚の扱いがされます。台子の天板をはずし地板のみを使ったのが始まりだそうです。大きいものは風炉用、小さいものは炉用です。（兼用のサイズもあります。） “Naga’ita” is a rectangular board for placing items, such as a furo, a mizusashi, etc. It is treated as an o’odana (large shelf). 抱清棚・Ho’use’idana
抱清棚（ほうせいだな）は、三方が板で囲まれています。後ろの板には透しがあり、両側の板の前方は弓形に刳られています。左の板の内側には柄杓用の竹釘が打たれています。地板はありません。中に板が一枚あります。 Ho’use’idana has vertical boards on the three sides. The board in the back has a cutout. 旅箪笥・Tabidansu
旅箪笥は炉の季節、特に三月・四月に使われます。秀吉の北条氏小田原征伐の際利休が使ったのがその始まりだそうです。桐木地は利休形ですが、その他に塗り物では惺斎好み、碌々斎好みなどがあります。 Tabidansu is used during the ro season – especially in April. It is said that Rikyu first used it during Hideyoshi’s campaign against the Ho’ujo’u clan in Odawara. Unfinished paulownia wood is the Rikyu style. 三木町棚・Mikimachidana
江岑棚について以前お話しましたが、その元となったのがこの「三木町棚」です。天板と地板は杉、柱は桧（ひのき）、引出しは樅（もみ）、摘みは竹です。写真で木地の違いが見えるでしょうか？（江岑棚は全て桐で、桑の掴みが着いています。） We previously covered Ko’ushindana. This tana, known as “Mikimachidana,” is its origin. The top and bottom boards are made of cedar, the columns are made of cypress, the drawer is made of fir, and the knob is made of bamboo. 四方棚・Yoho’udana
四方棚は天板と地板が四方形で二本柱があり、台子を半分にしたのが始まりとのことです。天板の方が地板より大きくなっています。大ぶりな桐木地で角 が直角なものは炉用の利休好みだそうですが、小ぶりのものは炉・風炉共用です。お稽古で頻繁に使うのは即中斎好み写しの溜塗爪紅小四方棚です。棚板に彫りこんである線は批目（へぎめ）です。 Yoho’udana has square top and bottom shelves with two columns. 丸卓・Marujoku
桐木地の丸卓は利休好みなのだそうです。二本の柱が天板と地板の内側にあり、地板の裏には低い三つの足があります。利休が酒樽を使って棚にしたのが始まり、という一説もあるそうです。 Marujoku with unfinished paulownia wood is reportedly Rikyu’s favorite. It has two columns between the top and bottom shelves, and the bottom has three feet. 旅卓・Tabijoku
ペッタンと折りたためる棚で持ち運びに大変便利です。そのため「旅卓」と言う名が付いたそうです。その代り奥行きがあまりなく飾り方は限られています。即中斎のお好みです。 You can fold this shelf flat and easily transport. Very convenient! Hence the name “Tabijoku” (tabi = travel; joku = shelf). But it doesn’t have much depth, which limits its display options. 桑小卓・Kuwakojoku
小卓は風炉の季節に使います。地板とその上の棚板の間に建水を飾ることができ、その時には平建水を使います。お稽古で使ったのは桑小卓です。こちらは如心斎好みだそうです。桐小卓は吸江斎、溜塗は即中斎のお好みとのこと。 Kojoku (“small shelf”) is used during the season for furo. Kensui can be displayed between the bottom board and the board above it, and a “flat” kind (hirakensui) is used in that case. We used “kuwakojoku” (mulberry kojoku) for our practice.
