水温む頃

ここ、２週間ほど、お稽古で使わせて頂いているお茶道具の中に、貝の蒔絵のお茶器と貝の食籠がありますが、「貝」は「水温む頃」つまり、三月中旬に相応しい絵柄なので、先生はこれらを選ばれているそうです。

「水温む頃」とは、春になって、寒さがゆるみ、池や川などの水が暖かい感じになってくる頃のことを言います。

水の中に生育する水草が芽を出し育っていき、それと共に、水中に棲む生き物が、目を覚まし活発に動き始めます。小魚は元気に泳ぎ回り、おたまじゃくしも孵化し始めるでしょう。そんな水中の生き物たちを代表して、貝がこの時節の象徴になっている、そうです。

それにしても、「水温む」という言葉は、冬の切れるような水の鋭い雰囲気と違い、ホッとするような思いをさせる、優しい言葉ですね。ホッとして明るい希望が持てるような、、、。

因みに、お茶器は、白漆、ミル貝蒔絵、大棗で久田宗匠の在判があります。

We have been using tea utensils decorated with seashell motifs for the last few weeks.

Seashell’s design is an appropriate motif to use in the middle of March. So our teacher explains.

The middle of March is also called “the time when water gets lukewarm (Mizu-yurumu-koro).

After a cold winter passes, spring comes and sunshine warms up waters in ponds, rivers and seas.

Aquatic plants grow and all other creatures in the water awaken and become very active….. small fishes energetically swim around and tadpoles hatch, etc.

And to symbolize these creatures in water, seashells are chosen.

Thus、 seashell drawings are on the Natsume tea container and Jikiro (the sweets’ container).

O-chaki is an Oh-Natsume, finished with Shiro Urushi lacqure with Geoduck (Miru-gai) maki-e drawing.  Hisada Sosho’s signature is on the box.
