As it is December, a quick note about the 12th Iemoto (grandmaster), Seisai (惺斎). He was the eldest son of the 11th Iemoto, Rokurokusai (碌々斎). Fushin-an (不審庵)(“THE” tea house on the Omotesenke estate in Kyoto) burned down in 1906, and Seisai rebuilt it. Each grand master has his “favorite” type of tea utensils, and out of all grandmasters, Seisai has the most. He had so many that Omotesenke has an entire book published about them. He passed away in 1937 at 75.
