Mr. E’ishun Nakamura (1908-1978) was an entrepreneur in Kanazawa who engaged in sake brewing.  He was also a tea practitioner, who joined Omotesenke in 1943 and started collecting tea utensils.  He later became the first chapter president of the Ishikawa prefecture chapter.

He held a conviction that: “The post-war Japan must prosper as a cultured nation.  To that end, I want to create a museum in Kanazawa.”  He donated his art collection to his foundation, Nakamura Memorial Museum, relocated his former residence to the present location, and renovated it to use as an exhibit hall.  The museum opened in May 1966.
