「蝉籠」は短い手が二つ付いている掛花入です。 久田宗全好みで、姿が蝉に似ているからという納得の命名です。

“Cicada basket” is a hanging hana’ire with two short handles.  It was favored by So’uzen Hisada (father of Rokuroku-sa’i).  It resembles a cicada when hung, hence the name.

これの蝉型花入はニューヨークのメトロポリタン美術館で「竹細工」の特集があったとき見たのですが、リアルすぎて怖い。

In contrast, here is one seen at the bamboo art exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  To me, it is a bit too realistic – and scary….

利休が削ったとされる茶杓がさりげなく。

At the same exhibit, there was chashaku on display (without much fanfare) – but it was made by Rikyu himself!
