遂に曜変天目・Finally Yo’uhen Tenmoku

静嘉堂文庫美術館で遂に国宝の曜変天目を(ガラスケース越しですが)拝見することができました。

I finally had an opportunity to view the Yo’uhen Tenmoku bowl, designated as a national treasure, at Seikado Bunko Art Museum, albeit through a glass display case.

かなり小振りでしたが、標準の天目(なんてあるのでしょうか)の形にみえました。

It is quite compact, and was shaped as you would expect a “standard” tenmoku bowl to look (if there is such a thing).

それに比べると同時に展示されていた油滴天目はすごく大きく、朝顔の花の様に開いていました。

In contrast, the Yuteki Tenmoku bowl, on display at the same time, was very large, and was wide open like a morning glory flower.
