Dragon Beard Candy

We encountered rather unique candy called: Dragon Beard Candy.  A student in our shachu found it in Chinatown and brought it back for us to eat as “ohigashi.”  Outside is a cocoon made of cotton candy (of slightly firmer consistency), and inside is filled with nuts, honey, etc.

A confectioner was pulling soft candy into fine strings, like a dragon floating in the wind.  A Qing emperor named it “Dragon Beard Candy” because the strings were so fine like beards of a dragon, a messenger of good tidings.
