Mr. Freer is said to have been a collector of pottery.  As such, Freer Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. regularly displays many a tea utensil.  Until recently, there was an exhibit focusing on Oribe-style pottery, entitled: Oribe Ware: Color and Pattern Come to Japanese Ceramics.

Oribe ware introduced vivid pattern and color to a ceramics tradition that had previously favored somber, monochrome designs. A major technological advance in ceramics—the Motoyashiki multi-chamber climbing kiln, which allowed potters to melt glazes to dazzling translucency—made this radically new appearance possible.
