Abbot Miyoshi from Myoju-ji visited San Francisco Nichiren-ji temple with his wife in early May.

As we are renting the tea room from the temple and Myoju-ji has been kind to us, we invited the guests for tea to show our gratitude.

Mrs. Miyoshi’s brother (Mr. Asami) is a Noh theater actor of the Kanze school (for primary characters or “shite”), and the next day he came to the temple to demonstrate singing and dancing of the Noh theater.  The demonstration was part of the temple community’s event, and we were fortunate to have participated in it.  Mr. Asami was kind enough to answer many questions from the audience.  It was such a fun Sunday afternoon.

A mask depicting a young woman has square pupils – just like in today’s anime character to make them appear dominant.
