The 60th anniversary tea gathering hosted by the Omotesenke Hawaii Chapter was held at the “Seiko’u-an” tea house, which is located at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii.

Before we went upstairs to the tea room, we saw an exhibit called “Okage Sama De—I am what I am because of you“.  It chronicles the history of the Japanese immigration that began in the late 19th century.  We all acutely felt the hardship of the people who cherished and preserved Japanese culture in a distant place.

And an exhibit about Honouliuli, an internment camp for Japanese Americans during World War II which is now being excavated, was a stark reminder to us the importance of peace – especially in this 7oth year of the end of the war.
