ハワイ支部60周年記念祝典の記念品は、亀井昭斎さん作の出服紗でハワイ特有の柄をあしらったユニークな物でした。ハワイ伝統の「タパ」柄を模しています。(タパについてはこちらもどうぞ。)

A commemorative gift for the 60th anniversary of the Hawaii Chapter was a unique item: dashibukusa made by Sho’usa’i Kame’i that featured a distinctively Hawaiian design.  (For more information on Tapa, please see here.)

The following was described in the accompanying story card.

初代昭斎は、八代友湖の五女として生まれ亀井家に嫁ぎました。昭和30年代より亀井昭斎として茶の湯袋師としての仕事を始め当代は三代目になります。

The first generation Sho’usa’i was the fifth daughter of the eighth generation Yu’uko, and married into the Kame’i family.  During the 30’s of years of Sho’uwa (1955-1964), she assumed the name Sho’usa’i Kame’i and began her work as fukuroshi (a skilled professional who specializes in making textiles).  The current Sho’usa’i Kame’i is the third generation.
