The Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin was the location for kencha (dedication tea) during the Omotesenke Hawaii 60th anniversary event in February 2015.  The event also commemorated the 70th year since the end of World War II.

Yu’uyu’u-sa’i Sen So’u’i’n Waka-So’usho’u (next Grand Master) performed the otema’e.  After the kencha, we received tea at ha’ifukuseki (session for sharing tea after offering tea to a deity).  The cake served at the tea was manju’u (paste-filled pastry) with a design of palm trees and sunset.

It was unfortunately a rainy day, but the event proceeded in a solemn atmosphere.  (A rumor has it K So’usho’u is known for bringing rain wherever he goes….)
