Konparu Kinran

Shifuku for cha’ire we used for ko’icha the other day was made of a fabric known as “Konparu kinran.”

Five stripes of different colors are woven with plants, flowers and symbols of treasures are overlaid in gold thread.  According to one theory, the same fabric pattern was used for a Noh play costume that Yoshimasa Ashikaga gave to Konparu Dayu’u, a famous Noh performer.

It looks festive and great for New Year’s season too.
