Chiyoko Ishida (tea name: Soren Ishida), Archbishop Nitten Ishida‘s wife, was one of the original instructors who taught Omotesenke tea practice in San Francisco over several decades.  The tea room that was added to Nichiren-ji in the 1950’s was the first Japanese tea room for Omotesenke in San Francisco.  July 28, 1993 is the date of her passing.  To commemorate, although modestly, our Shachu dedicated tea to her at our recent practice.
