Ro Opening

It’s November – the season for opening the “ro” (a sunken brazier built in the floor).  Our teacher has returned from her trip to Japan, and the Shikata Shachu began practicing with the “ro” on November 22.  It’s also a “back to basic” time; everybody did “Hakobi-style usucha with ro” (carry all utensils with you into the tea room and serve light tea using the ro). (The photograph shows the ro – but the utensils are for serving ko’icha – heavy tea – using a shelf.  Sorry.)
